"The Coach", George DeMaio of WELI and Jaeden Konesky |
I had the extreme pleasure of photographing a weekend baseball tournament organized by, of all people, the umpires. Several umpires have Type 1 Diabetes or have children or grandchildren with Type 1 Diabetes. So, the umpires decided to hold a benefit tournament at which they donated their services, an in-kind donation of over $4,000. They recruited the Connecticut SportsPlex in North Branford as a co-sponsor; ownership their donated the fields, maintenance, and staff for the weekend for an in-kind donation of $4,100. And me, I am donating my time and the proceeds of the sales of photos.
Included in the weekend was a softball game between the Shoreline Fire Departments and the Shoreline Police Departments. Three young ladies who must wear insulin pumps, JDRF personnel, and Coach George DeMaio each took turns throwing ceremonial first pitches at this anchor event for the weekend.
In total, the umpires raised nearly $8,000 for JDRF in their inaugural attempt at this event.
